Living in a world that has been plagued with global tragedy and turmoil can not be easily ignored. If you were looking to shun away the world, we would ask you to turn off your television, avoid news stands and log off social media websites. Disconnecting from the many outlets that keep us globally informed is definitely not easy, and because of it’s obvious in an in-your-face-manor, it should not be ignored.

Craig and Mark Keilburger have done the impossible: educate, energize and engage youth in social justice issues. Through their program ‘Free the Children’ and initiatives such as ‘Me to We’ and the day of action ‘We Day’ have charged up thousands of youth to get involved in a revolution that, if working together, will create a global movement.
Constantly, we hear that the youth are the future, where as we would argue that youth are in fact the NOW of our churches and our communities. If our generation does not engage globally, and recognize the issues that are at hand, it is not long until we are lost, broken and unable to sustain ourselves any longer.

We are lucky.

We live in a part of the world that is protected, where water and shelter are available. Our stores are lined with food; there is public transportation available and lights to dim during movie nights with our friends. Privileges that we take advantage of, not realizing beyond our back yard, there is a world that is striving to keep afloat.

But now what?

It’s hard to think that there is something that you can do. Here you are on your laptop, iPad, BlackBerry etc. thinking about what can be done to help people who don’t even know you exist. But when does it get to a point where you can’t take the sad images on television or the minister in the pulpit talking the destruction of the Holy Land. That’s where PWRDF comes in…

Is there a solution? There is!

The Primate’s World Relief & Development Fund’s youth program justgeneration.ca has a program called 50 LEADERS that is designed to give you the right tools for the trade. It starts with leadership training in beautiful British Columbia. You’ll indulge in the glory of the province of British Columbia at the Sorrento Conference and Retreat Centre, but this is also where your journey begins.

During the weekend, 50 Leaders will equip you with the skills and knowledge to go forward and make a difference in your community. There is a series of steps that come out of the leadership program and an avalanche of great activities to help further the skill set learned at the initial conference, beginning with some self-directed education and partnership with a mentor/spiritual adviser both during and after the weekend! What is truly interesting about 50 Leaders program is that you will be given opportunities to apply, attend and contribute to conferences, camps, educational programs, activism experiences etc. that will enhance your learning process. Immersions are meant to help you learn more about justice issues, to develop as a leader and better understand how your faith informs your and directs your response to issues you are passionate about. We at justgeneration.ca are going to keep our ears to the ground too, and make sure that you have up to date information on opportunities that are available to you!

We know that the flame of global change has ignited in your heart, and we want to make sure that it doesn’t get extinguished. Sometimes it takes fire to fight fire, and we are here to add the kindling.
