Asia-Pacific Indigenous Youth Network

The Asia Pacific Indigenous Youth Network is an alliance of indigenous youth organizations in Asia and the Pacific that was formed in 2002. It aims to promote and defend the rights of indigenous peoples in general, and the indigenous youth in particular. The Network intends to contribute to building the capacity and self-confidence of indigenous youth in the Asia-Pacific Region by providing systems of information, exchange and networking. It prioritizes on mobilizing the catalytic role of indigenous youth by facilitating exchange of ideas, analysis and experiences that they in turn can contribute and share with their indigenous communities. PWRDF has been a partner of APIYN since 2003.

Goal of the Network

The Network intends to contribute to building the capacity and self-confidence of indigenous youth in the Asia-Pacific region by providing systems of information, exchange and networking. It prioritizes on mobilizing the catalytic role of indigenous youth by facilitating exchange of ideas, analysis and experiences that they in turn can contribute and share with their indigenous communities.

Objectives

  1. Disseminate the different issues that confronts the indigenous peoples and the indigenous youth in particular.
  2. Coordinate and campaign on pressing issues if the indigenous youth like education, militarization, mining, etc.
  3. Coordinate and facilitate exchange programs and integration among the different member organizations.
  4. Strenghten its organizational capacity by actively epanding its membership.
  5. Promote and disseminate the resolutions of the International Indigenous Youth Conference.

Leadership Trainings and Workshps

  1. Facilitation of networking among IP youth organizations in the Asia-Pacific region
  2. Launching of campaigns and lobbying the advocacy of Indigenous Peoples and Indigenous Youth issues
  3. Launching of the APIYN conference, National Youth Jams, and Youth-Elders Dialogues

"I am Jennifer Awingan,coordinator for Asia Pacific Indigenous Youth Network,APIYN.In behalf of APIYN, am writing to invite you /and ask your assistance to disseminate the information regarding the upcomming Indigenous Climate Connection: An Indigenous Youth regional Conference ,featuring two themes on Climate Change and UNDRIP to be held on October 24-Nov. 1, 2009 in Wellington, New Zealand. This is being organized by APIYN and Conscious Collaborations.

We would like to invite indigenous young leaders in ASIA and the PACIFIC Small Islands who are mostly threatened by the impacts of Climate Change to join us in this important youth gathering to share, learn and unite our voices and actions in support of our communities' struggles to address these main issues. Please take note that the ICC is for Asia and Pacific Young indigenous leaders only. We are open to have observers from other regions but they are not eligible for travel and registration scholarships. (emphasis added)"

Members of the justgeneration.ca network who might be interested in attending this conference would be eligible to apply to the justfund for money to help defray the costs of attendance.
