U2charist
Since the late 1970's, U2's music, Christian faith, and social justice activism has inspired many of us to make a difference in the world! Songs like "Sunday Bloody Sunday" right through to "Yahweh" have helped shaped our Christian faith and hopes for social justice. A "U2charist" is an Anglican Eucharist service. The purpose is to praise God using the music and words of the rock band U2 - while providing a message about God's call to rally around the Millennium Development Goals and to Make Poverty History - initiatives which The Anglican Church of Canada, PWRDF and justgeneration.ca support. Holding a U2charist, or a U2-themed Eucharist (as some prefer to call it) to support the work of justgeneration.ca and PWRDF takes a bit of work - but it's worth it! You'll need to get a band or church musician that can play U2's music (even a guitarist would do) - and create your own liturgy (though there are a lot of resources out there to help - including the powerpoint below from our friends at St. Thomas' Anglican Church in Brooklyn - and lots on the Episcopalians for Global Reconciliation site). justgeneration.ca and PWRDF support the Millennium Development Goals, and U2 allows groups who are working towards the MDG's to use their music without licensing fees. The Episcopalians for Global Reconciliation site has a lot of resources to use in creating your own U2charist.
